Personality:
Born the crown prince of Lucis, Noctis has never been a stranger to being in the public eye, but perhaps it's because of this that he has developed what some might consider a deep-seated sense of ennui. At first glance, he seems rather disinterested in, well, just about everything. He often seems bored, listless or lacking enthusiasm in general, which can be mistaken for coldness. However, as noted by a radio announcer this hardened exterior "belies a gentle demeanour." Perhaps it can be said that Noctis struggles with being able to express himself properly, choosing instead to keep most of his thoughts and feelings buried deep below the surface, and to himself...
Unable to escape his regal upbringing, more often that not Noctis acts proper and polite, with even his posture betraying him, as is pointed out by his comrades. While he may be of royal blood, he treats his friends as his equals, even the self-proclaimed plebeian ones. Bending a knee to the young Talcott as well, small acts like this truly show that he does not believe he is above anyone, even the young son of a family in servitude to the Crownsguard. He is humbled by the sorrow of the young boy, wanting to promise him that he will make things right again, apologizing for how their family was wronged, and taking responsibility for what happened. ("We should have been there...")
Even though all signs point to him not being entirely fond of his royal destiny, it should be stated that despite those feelings of uncertainty, Noctis has never once strayed from the path of his calling. This could perhaps be attributed to all the loss that has paved the way for him, from his mother's early death, to his lively childhood ending abruptly, as well as the sacrifices made by his father (and later still... the Oracle).
Of course, being on Noctis' good side doesn't mean you're in store for a friendship of sugar and rainbows, contrarily he seems to show his affection towards his brothers in arms with sharp wit, stupid jokes, and relentless poking fun. There are even times that he doesn't take himself very seriously, willing to frolic momentarily with costumed mascots... only to afterwards be surprised at himself, thinking out loud that he "can't believe he did that." When complained to about how he could "be a little nicer," his retort is that "he could, but he won't," without a hint of malicious intent in the words. Boys will be boys, and the future king is no exception. His father offers the insight that Noctis, growing up after his incident and now more withdrawn and quiet outwardly, was still rebellious and hard to control. Hardly behaviour fitting of a crown prince, though he was loved for it all the same, and he in turn, also loved his father greatly. Now, if only the same could be said for his tumultuous relationship with vegetables...
That softer, gentler side earlier touched upon is there, however, and it especially rings true when it comes to the prince's run-ins with animals, where his gigantic soft-spot for all things living (bugs not included, which he outright states he is not a fan of) take root. Going out of his way to feed stray cats (even a cooked meal, no less when one particular gourmet kitty turns up its nose) Noctis proudly wants others to know that "there is no wrong way to love a chocobo." It is times like these that he allows his true, inner dorkish nature to reign free. Smiles and silly poses with his friends come around in numerous photos taken along the way, though his true passion is and may always be, his love of fishing. It is in times like these that perhaps the prince feels most at ease expressing himself, and why he seems happiest in those moments as well. There are no royal duties, no customs or stiff formalities that he has no love for— just him and his friends, making their own way in the open world.
When faced with a challenge, Noct tends to try and solve the problem head-on... with a rather hard-head and stubbornness to match. When his emotions take hold of him, he tends to employ a sort of tunnel-vision towards the end result, which often isn't the safest route. He will stand up to a sword being pointed at his throat, looking down the blade snidely until the trusted King's Shield steps in, showing us that he is unafraid to put himself in harms way, even if his entourage wishes he wouldn't (since... that did end in a choke-hold for him, in the end).
Once the theoretical world seems to come crashing down around him, Noctis first seems unwilling to accept the events happening in his homeland of Insomnia, wanting to backtrack on their journey in order to see what happened with his own eyes. This inability to cope comes to light a few more times, such as when he and Gladio make the trek down to the Disc, where his guardian tries to shake sense into him... and once more when the tragedy in Altissia occurs. When the biting words of his comrade come out in full force however, he does not shy away from snapping right back, either.
In truth, Noct seems to need time to internalize these tragedies, we see this first hand when he walks away from Gladio in particular on the train following the confrontation with Leviathan, where he needs to take a moment to sit, breathe, and collect himself before he can face the horrors of the world again.
In a lot of ways, Noctis can't rid himself of the kind, idealistic notions that he held in his childhood. He carries with him an inherent want to do good and right by others, even if he may not be the best at expressing it. All that being said, there are many things that happen during his journey to hint that Noct really is just trying to find his place in the world, aside from the burden of his line of succession, as he really is trying to figure himself out still. Can he truly be the Chosen King that he promised Luna he would one day become...?
Personal Moral Codes:
· Walk Tall is a philosophy his father set upon him. Less cryptically, its taken to mean that walking your path with your head held high is one of the most important things he can do on his journey, to be proud of the choices he makes and the bonds that he forms along the way, and to believe in himself.
· Bros on the Road his loyalty knows no bounds, especially among his dearest of friends.
· All Creatures Great and Small whether it be trying to comfort someone in their sorrow or feeding a stray cat, he has always treated others as his equals, never letting his royal lineage get in the way.
· Become the Chosen King a fate that he can't escape, and has finally taken steps to embrace.
Insecurities/Personal Demons:
· The Weight of the World if his journey were to end in such a way, it doesn't just mean a loss for Noct, it's a loss for all the world. These feelings can often smother or suffocate him to the point of acting out.
· A Crown of Guilt life-altering events occur on his road to ascenion, with loss and death being the most prominent themes. Noctis almost certainly suffers with survivor's guilt for most of his life, and he often blames himself for what's happened to those he loves. He struggles to find ways to even begin to atone for the things that have happened because of him, and often deals with depressive symptoms. When left to his own devices, he runs the risk of becoming consumed by them...
· Become the Chosen King... although its his 'destiny' Noctis has always struggled with the idea of becoming king, and often wonders if he's cut out for it— though he doesn't have much of a choice.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses:
SWORDPLAYAbility/Power/Magic Warping:
At a young age, Noctis was already being trained in the art of swordplay. Although he wasn't particularly fond of the lessons and didn't take to them right away, eventually he caught on and since then has been able to wield a sword like the best of them. His skills with a blade have only grown over time, as well as over the course of his journey on the road.
He is capable of handling a wide variety of weapons, although his first choice would be the sword, he is no less adept in handling pole-arms, daggers, guns or other projectiles, and shields.
WARP-STRIKES.
A power bestowed upon those of the royal line, Noctis has the ability to instantly teleport himself to a near-by location, or else launch himself weapon-first into the enemy. This ability takes form when Noct himself throws his weapon of choice towards something, only to instantaneously take hold of it again where ever it may land. The target does need to be in his line of sight in order to be successful, however.
Another facet of this skill comes in the form of dodging incoming attacks, although much shorter range than his striking capabilities, it no less gives him a brief moment to side-step an incoming threat, should he catch sight of it in time.
Of course, these abilities come with a heavy blow to his MP stamina however, and would not be infinitely sustainable by any means.
ARMIGER ARSENAL.
Another ability belonging solely to the Kings of Lucis, Noct has the otherworldly gift to be able to change his weapon at will to any of those belonging to the kings of times past, whose tombs he has visited. For the purpose of the game, they will only be considered normal weapons rather than in possession of any special stats.
He currently carries the following: Sword of the Wise, Axe of the Conqueror, Bow of the Clever, Swords of the Wanderer, Blade of the Mystic, Star of the Rogue, Sword of the Tall, Shield of the Just, Mace of the Fierce and the Sceptre of the Pious, the Katana of the Warrior, the Trident of the Oracle and the Sword of the Father. These will all have to be regained through in-game rewards.
As a sort of "limit break" Noctis also has the ability to enter a brief "berserker-like" state in which the weapons crystallize around him enabling him to reach a heightened level of combat and borderline levitation, but due to the RP's nature this would be reserved only for special and infrequent cases.
SUMMONING.
At his current canon point, Noctis has obtained the blessings of Titan, Ramuh, and Leviathan. (Shiva will be omitted because spoilers.) These are great beings of power which cannot be repeatedly called upon. (For in-game purposes perhaps at a rate of once every two months at minimum?)
RING OF THE LUCII.
A royal heirloom passed down through the Lucian line, the ring is a source of great power. It lends its bearer skills that would not be possible without wearing it, and quite literally burns away those "unworthy" of its power. The magic bestowed upon the kings thanks to its majesty are:· DEATH: Slowly drains away life essence of its target. S l o w l y . . .ELEMANCY.
· HOLY: A burst of shining, burning light which counter-defends a close-call in battle.
· ALTERNA: An extremely taxing move, which attempts to rip the target from this reality into another. (for rp-purposes this will work more in an 'the target feels torn apart' de-powered version, if that's all right!)
Noctis is able to draw on types of raw elements (in his case, fire, ice or lightning) and store a small amount of that energy, to later unleash in the form of a "magic spell."
SHARED HAMMERSPACE.
Comrades in arms that have formed a strong bond with the prince are also able to summon and disperse their weapons at will. Aside from being a pretty cool storage space for his bros, it doesn't really seem to have any other advantages to it.
FISHING.
Umm this totally counts, he is the living legend known as Noct Gar!!! King of Fishing!
Also AVOIDING VEGETABLES is a special skill, I'm pretty sure. Or maybe that's more of a weakness...
Although it may seem like the Power of Kings is a non-stop thrill ride, Noctis' abilities all come with a price. Aside from the need for MP regeneration, having to physically draw upon elements in order to utilize them, and his royal arms taking a toll on his very life force, his powers are far from self-sustaining or unlimited. Having suffered a rather serious injury in his childhood, the shadow of that event has the potential to rear its ugly head as he continues to age, and each time he uses the powers of yore. Not to mention that he has still not fully ascended and as such, is still working to harness the true potential of these abilities, putting him at a disadvantage at times when under heavy fire.
It could take him as long as ten years to get a proper hold on it all...
WARP-STRIKES.
While Noctis' ability to wrap-strike remains largely unchanged, since arriving in-game whenever he disappears into that momentary hammer-space, he hears the voices of his dead ancestors. Depending on his own current mental state they may either taunt, blame, accuse or ridicule and much more infrequently, encourage, his current motives or goals.
ARMIGER ARSENAL.
While accessing different weapons in the armiger or changing his current arms, Noctis now experiences discomfort resulting in small cuts and bruises along his arms and hands. With continued/prolonged exposure (ie. switching out often or too quickly) brusing and lacerations and contusions increase in severity the more he insists on using it. This multiplies ten-fold during his limit break/berserker-like state. Also, much like FFXV, the use of the Royal Arms in particular exhaust him much quicker than any regular weapon (his Engine Blade, for example) would.
SUMMONING.
After a successful summon, Noctis' eye shift colour to a purple-red shade, and his skin often glows with the appearance of embers and ash. These side-effects now take a few days to wear off rather than a few minutes.
RING OF THE LUCII.
Using the ring at any time now (with the exception of Holy's defensive-counter) will cause Noctis to pass out nearly immediately after, and sporting those tell-tale burns and eyes for a day or two. To further complicate things, the use of Death now seems to affect him emotionally, while Alterna takes a physical toll.
ELEMANCY.
When attempting to draw upon the elements, he now experiences the negative effects of that element. For example, a nearly unbearable burn when trying to harness fire, a jarring electrical shock where lightining is concerned (as well as a nasty shock for anyone he touches shortly after) and a deep painful sort-of-frostbite when absorbing ice. Physical manifestations of these effects may also occur.

Additional Information:

As noted in his inventory, Carbuncle will also be coming along for this ride. Since Deerington heavily sells itself as a dreamworld (and Carbuncle being very prominent in Noctis' dreamspace) he is now visible to others. Rather than a constant companion though, his is more of a transient being that comes and goes as he pleases. This little guy possesses mild-healing abilities that will abide by the game's rules, and occasionally uses electronic devices to communicate.
